Client: Van Lingen Towing & Public Impound Safety Services. – Two locations in the city of Torrance, CA. one location in the city of Inglewood
Problem #1:
Proprietary database for towing and recovery industry was performing much too slowly for efficient daily operations.
Solution #1:
T.Rowe Consulting Group analyzed Van Lingen’s existing technology infrastructure, workstations and networking. We recommended moving from a typical mapped network drive scenario to a much more efficient and speedy Terminal Server / Thin-client type of connection. This type of connection and network allowed for all processing of database queries to happen directly and locally on the server instead of pushing large amounts of data across the network.
Result #1:
Suddenly, a database look-up that previously took up to ten seconds to return a result now happened in a much more immediate two to three seconds. By having all data, applications and management directly on the server, future administration by T.Rowe was much more efficient, saving Van Lingen money in consulting fees.
Problem #2:
Van Lingen’s other location was connected only by a slow dial-up modem and only allowed for one computer to be connected at a given time.
Solution #2:
T.Rowe Consulting Group implemented and installed a much more efficient Virtual Private Network DSL solution and used Terminal Services to allow connection from the entire network of the second location across town, directly into the server and database at their primary location.
Result #2:
This flexible solution allowed Van Lingen to have a central dispatch at one location to control all three of their locations, again saving money and creating efficiency. It also allowed management to have an immediate connection to all of their locations and information right from their desk. All of this, while being able to access the Internet at the same time in order to track vehicles through GPS and access CHP traffic collision reports, maps and other pertinent information. Another benefit of this setup allows T.Rowe representatives to continue to remotely support all of Van Lingen’ locations and computer systems from our offices, continuing to streamline the efficiency and money savings for Van Lingen Towing and Public Impound Safety Services. |
